Our Story and Previous Events


Threshold.aero is jointly owned by Andrew Morley, Paul Varcoe. We have three Associate Partners in the form of Glenn Stanley, Gary Morris and Matt Sudol.


Back in 2015, we (along with Chris Globe and Martin Needham) were volunteers with the Gazelle Squadron and helping out at various events. As aviation photographers, we hit on the idea of running a night photography shoot to help publicise the display team and raise some money to help support the restoration and upkeep of their aircraft.


The first night photocall was a resounding success, so another quickly arranged after taking feedback from those who attended the first event. Bolstered by the initial success of this, the second night photocall and the airfield tours we also ran, we began looking to organise and run larger and more ambitious events. Unfortunately, Bourne Park proved unsuitable for this, so with a hunger in our bellies, we broke away and decided to go it alone and create our own events company. Threshold.aero was born on 1st January 2017.


Fittingly, as we headed into our first year the date coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the Gazelle. With the Army Air Corps (AAC) operating the last of the UK's military Gazelles, it seemed appropriate that the celebration should happen at AAC Middle Wallop. Aircraft from across the UK and Europe, along with military support from the Army Air Corps and the French Army, ensured a great attendance and a large charitable donation was made to the Museum of Army Flying.


May of 2017 saw us assist the organisers of the Abingdon Air and Country Fair as we took charge of the organising and running of their traditional pre-show night photocall.


During the summer, we assisted the Cosford Air Show with their pre-event social media, providing images of arriving aircraft in near-real time and producing the air show's aircraft checklists. Tours to HMS Sultan and Hawarden Airport were also organised and ran during the first half of 2017.


Night photography shoots were next organised in the autumn of 2017 at City Airport Manchester and Gatwick Aviation Museum, making considerable donations to the North West Air Ambulance and Gatwick Aviation Museum respectively.


Our first year concluded at RNAS Yeovilton with Navy Wings and the Royal Naval Historic Flight (RNHF). This was the first time any of either collection's aircraft were made available to be photographed at night and ensured an enthusiastic attendance and again a sizable donation to Navy Wings. The year drew to a close with in excess of £13,000 donated to various charities.


2018 began with a photocall at Spanhoe Airfield, Northamptonshire, with a number of resident aircraft positioned for the benefit of photographers. Despite poor weather, the event was well attended and featured the first public appearance of the Reid and Sigrist RS.4 Bobsleigh following a thorough restoration courtesy of Windmill Aviation.


March 2018 proved a busy month with night photocalls working with each of the three airborne branches of the UK's armed forces. Beginning with an event which saw us partner up with the RAF Cosford Air Show Office to showcase a number of based aircraft and several which have been brought in as part of this year's RAF100 celebrations. A week later, we ran our second Navy Wings Night Photocall at RNAS Yeovilton which saw support from based assets and HeliOps as well as from the Navy Wings/RNHF stable. The month was capped off with a night photocall at AAC Middle Wallop marking the station's 80th anniversary and the final Wings Parade held at the Hampshire base.


Around this time, we had a change of personnel as Chris left, whilst Glenn, Gary and Matt joined the team.


April saw our largest event to date as twelve months after our Gazelle 50th event, we once again celebrated a former AAC aircraft at Middle Wallop. With both the airfield and the Auster Aircraft Company celebrating eightieth anniversaries, the weather, however, proved most unhelpful to our endeavours.


Again running the annual night photocall which forms part of the Abingdon Air and Country Show weekend, we expanded our responsibilities at the event by producing the aircraft participation checklist, running the airside areas of the showground and providing a refreshment tent for visiting pilots.


Despite having not yet reached the midway point of 2018, we have raised slightly more than £20,000 for charity in this, our second year of running events.
